“Will young love be enough to hold their family together as they walk down this uncertain road?” Heather Haynes
We’re delighted to have acquired Alejandro Bernal’s latest documentary film Rebel Love (Amor Rebelde) premiered at the 2021 edition of Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, the largest North American documentary festival. Alejandro is an EMMY Award-winning director who has covered current affairs around the Americas for over a decade, producing specials for networks like Univision, Al Jazeera English and Discovery Channel, among many others.
Heather Haynes from Hot Docs, said about Rebel Love: “In this love story born in the midst of war, two FARC-EP combatants, Cristian and Yimarly, meet and fall in love. As the peace accords between FARC-EP and the Colombian Government begin to play out, the young couple is filled with hope at the opportunity to start a new life and a family together. But soon they come to realize that love outside of the ranks in the military is not as ideal as they imagined. Having to build a home and find work proves to be an almost insurmountable challenge, as they must make difficult decisions that could tear them apart. With a baby on the way, the political climate escalates as many former FARC-EP guerillas fear for their safety. Will young love be enough to hold their family together as they walk down this uncertain road?”
